Caritas Ukraine update, 1 April 2022

Our parish Aid to Ukraine appeal raises funds for the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA Canada) which partners with Caritas Ukraine to provide humanitarian assistance, access to medical aid, and spiritual support. The following is an update from CNEWA on the activities of Caritas Ukraine’s twenty regional branches.

The toll of the first month of the war in Ukraine is at least 2,421 civilian victims, 3,389,044 displaced people—including at least 1.5 million children—and nearly 6.5 million internally displaced persons.

So far, CNEWA Canada has raised over $1.16 million CAD for Caritas Ukraine. Below is the list of Caritas organizations currently helping the displaced people. Despite the dangerous security situation and difficulties, Caritas continues its humanitarian work in Ukraine.

1. Caritas Kyiv is working on receiving and distributing humanitarian aid, as well as providing support to medical institutions.

2. Caritas-Lviv provides food, as well as cooperates with the crisis headquarters of the city, organized round-the-clock bus transportation of displaced people to their places of residence.

3. Caritas-Drohobych organizes a place of temporary residence, as well as provides food and humanitarian assistance.

4. Caritas Stryi serves as a stopping point for transit of the displaced people, as well as providing food and humanitarian assistance.

5. Caritas Zhovkva works as a stopping point for transit of the displaced people, organizes temporary accommodation, and provides food and humanitarian assistance.

6. Caritas-Ternopil provides temporary shelter, food and humanitarian aid.

7. Caritas Chortkiv in Buchach is ready to receive the displaced people.

8. Caritas-Ivano-Frankivsk helps with settlements; provides medical care, food and hygiene kits.

9. Caritas Kolomyia has organized a place for temporary residence, as well as organizes food and humanitarian aid with clothes, food and hygiene products.

10. Caritas Nadvirna has organized a place for temporary residence, as well as food and humanitarian aid.

11. Caritas-Chernivtsi has organized a place of temporary residence, as well as food and humanitarian aid.

12. Caritas-Volyn (Novovolynsk) provides temporary accommodation assistance; soup kitchen is in operation.

13. Caritas-Zhytomyr provides food and humanitarian aid.

14. Caritas Khmelnytsky provides reception services; provision of products, hygiene products.

15. Caritas Odesa works as a stopping point for transit of the displaced people, as well as food and humanitarian aid.

16. Karita-Poltava provides assistance to refugees moving through the transit place for the displaced people. Also provides food.

17. Caritas Zaporizhia operates as a stopping point for transit of the displaced peoples, as well as providing food and humanitarian assistance.

18. Caritas-Donetsk in Dnipro provides assistance to the displaced people moving through the city in transit. Also provides food.

19. Caritas Kamianske organizes places for transit people and humanitarian aid.

20. Caritas-Kramatorsk provides food kits.
